Dear friend,
October 17th, 2008
Maybe I’ll see you on the streets, and you’ll recognise me as the girl with the awkward stance and the searching eyes. Maybe you’ll see me crossing the street, dodging the cars to get to the other side. And then you’ll yell my name, and I will turn around, but it would be too late to come to you, because alas, the sign has turned red again. And then I wave, a vague, ambiguous wave - is it hello, or goodbye once again, dear friend?

No butter, no babycake
September 13th, 2008
I went to the shops today. My grocery list consisted of:
- Self raising flour
- Caster sugar
- Icing sugar
- Melts
- Cadbury milk chocolate chips
- A packet of “babycake” size patty pans
Yes, I was going to bake chocolate mud babycakes, since I have been in a very frenzied baking mood for the past few weekends.
I got home, arranged all my stuff on the kitchen benchtop, pre-heated my oven, lined my baking tray with the patty pans, and took out all my “gadgets” - handheld mixer, spatula, whisk, and 2 big bowls. Then out came the things from the fridge… eggs, milk, butter, cream cheese for the frosting…. wait… I have no butter. I HAVE NO BUTTER? I just bought a 500g slab last weekend… surely I haven’t finished it yet (since I don’t use butter on my toast!). Then it dawned on me: I baked a big, big banana cake last week. That’s where your butter went, Trish!
Disappointment, frustration, and a feeling of utter stupidity flooded me. I walked past the butter/dairy section so many times… I even bought a small wedge of apricot and almonds cheese…!! How could I miss the number one important ingredient?!?!?!
Anyway, I’m too tired to drive out again and buy butter, so I’ll just look at these babycakes photos that my friend Tere bought for me last week when she came over to borrow my nursing books (the babycakes were bribe, so she can borrow as much books as she wanted - and that was perfectly fine by me!).
Enjoy!

Faith
August 24th, 2008
I think I found the church for me. I’ve been looking for a church for ages, years even, and I think I found it in Christian City Church CentreWest. I used to go to CCC back in Canberra, but when I moved to Sydney all the CCC’s are only reachable by car, and I didn’t have a car back then hehe. So when I moved places, and acquired a car, I dutifully went looking for the nearest CCC in the area.
I went to CCC CentreWest for the first time last week, to pray and offer my auntie who has just recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. God really works in mysterious ways, because I needed something big to happen to my life before realising I’ve faltered away from Him again. Trials and tests in our lives are constant reminders of our faith, or lack thereof, in His Word. But time and time again, even through the never ending cycle of disobeying Him and going back to Him, He is the one thing that is constant in our lives and the only place we can always call home.
I’ve been to CCC CentreWest twice now, and I can say that I love it. I love the pastor because we similar - we are both cynics. But he is a cynic with Christian heart - he knows that living through modern times as a Christian is hard in so many ways than one, but his opinions and statements are very well said, and transcribed, and taught in a Christian perspective.
So I’m excited for this church. I’m excited that I finally found my church, my home church, and I’m excited to go back again to praising God and hearing His word and being around this great, great church. I’m excited.
…
Went to 2 churches yesterday, one in CCC and the other at EveryNation Epping where my auntie goes to. Apparently EveryNation is the “branch” of Victory Fellowship here? It was a very small church, but with awesome people. And the great thing is it was only about 15 minutes away from my place! CCC is only 5 minutes (hehehe!) and it’s all perfect timing - CCC has morning services, so if I miss that then I can go to the afternoon service in EveryNation.
Amazing how God put me in my suburb, how He gave me this apartment, which I’ve been looking for in a long time, because He has other plans for me? I thought the location of my apartment is excellent as it is central to everything and close to the city for work, but really, He put me in this place, in this suburb, because He has greater plans for me? I love it!

City 2 Surf Marathon 2008!
August 10th, 2008
So that was that. Another City 2 Surf conquered! And this time, everything exceeded expectations: it’s the first time I ran almost ALL of the 14kms and (I apologise in advance for bragging but I feel that I have to hahaha) hot damn I’m so proud right now!
Took the train from Strathfield to Museum, used the toilets in Museum because no way am I going to use those port-a-loos again! Arrived in the start line around 8.30am.
The start line for the blue bibs

Still full of energy - before the start

And then off we went! Ran the first 3 kms to break away from the walkers and the prams… through Kings Cross, Edgecliff, and Rose Bay. Soon after we can see the first Gatorade drinking station, and the 5km mark. Boy was I happy to see that! Only 9k’s more to go! (Gatorade reeeeeeeeally works, hahaha!).
Pound that pavement! (look for the monkey and the banana costumes! HAHAHA!)

We didn’t take any photos during the race because we just wanted to finish the race. One foot infront of the other. One hill after the next. And then there was Hearbreak Hill. 2 kms (I think) of winding up a hill, sweating it out, all for the glory of… uh…. conquering the Hill! The only consolation was the second Gatorade drinking station…. ah yes, light at the end of the tunnel!
It was pretty uneventful after the Hill. I saw a girl slip and fall down, but I was too far ahead to go back and help her. There were lots of runners on the way, but good thing some of them helped her out. Poor thing - I wish she was able finish the race! I also saw a girl with a right prosthetic leg, jogging (God bless her!)! And a cute gramps with a tshirt that says “I’m late! I’m late! I’m late! 25 years of City 2 Surf”. Hahaha! Those are what kept me motivated.
I decided to run the last 6 kms, I don’t know why, but maybe because I felt that I could. On the last 4 kms, my left shin started to give in (I injured it on Thursday when I did double Attack & Pump), and I can feel a blister coming in on my right foot. Oh, and chaffing in between my thighs because of the sweat hehehe (I was wearing short lycra shorts, so that’s skin to skin contact!)! Eeewww. Anyway, Joseph kept pushing me to jog some more, to not slack off, don’t stop the momentum, just keep jogging, there’s Bondi right there, we only have 1 more km to go, the people were cheering “NOT LONG TO GO! PUSH IT HARDER! 1 MORE KM TO GO!” and all that shebang, and I thought, What the hey, let’s push it to the finish line!
Finish line! Finish line! FINISH LINE!

Joseph and I held hands while approaching the finish line (everybody now: aawww!), but then he had to go infront of me when crossing the barrier. And that was it! We made it! Went to one of the benches, removed the chip from our shoes, chucked it in the chip bin, and got our medals!
Plonked ourselves down on the sand, took in the welcoming sight of Bondi Beach, and stretched in the sand. I removed my socks and shoes to investigate the blister, and lo and behold, there it was: angry looking, swollen, and bloody painful - my marathon war wound! (No don’t worry I did not take a photo for fear of further viewer’s disgust). I took off my top, and ran to the beach to dip in the water. IT WAS BLOODY FREEZING! I quickly got out of the water again and went back to where Joseph was, lied down abit in the sun, and started stretching my poor, but undefeated, legs!
Joseph just passed out hahaha!

It felt so good to be on the beach again, the sun shining high up a clear, blue sky (it stormed in the afternoon so boy were we lucky!) - it’s my own little tradition: City 2 Surf marks the end of my long winter hibernation, and the start of the summer! I can feel my muscles unwinding, my whole body opening up to the warmth of the soon-to-be summer sun!
So, that was it. Another City 2 Surf marked off. The official time results will come out tomorrow, and we’re pretty sure we did an awesome time. If it’s even a two digit time (less than 100 minutes) we can be in the green start next year! Woot woot! But if it isn’t, that’s alright, because we know we already kicked our own butts this year and there’s always next year to improve!

Lipstick Jungle
July 23rd, 2008
I have a new SATC addiction alternative - Lipstick Jungle.
Candace Bushnell is the JK Rowling of chick lit.
I love it!
My favourite? Nico, of course. I’d love to see that day when I am an executive like her, who dresses, talks, and moves through life like her (erm…. minus the adultery part).
